
Mentoring Matters is designed to be a community-based mentoring program in Prince Georges’ County in which children and youth of incarcerated parents, ages four up to age 18, are appropriately matched with an adult mentor, who has been screened and trained, for a one-on-one (one mentor/one youth), friendship-oriented mentoring relationship.
Mentor Requirements
- Must be 21 years old with a valid diver’s license and proof of insurance
- Participate in 60 minute “ mentor” orientation
- Complete mentor application and survey profile
- Agree to be available to interact with mentee on a weekly basis to provide support, encouragement and advice.
- Provide opportunities for mentee to gain new skills, interests and expand their experiences beyond their families, schools and neighborhoods.
- Record mentee/mentor interactions/hours in a monthly log; submit to Mentor Coach
