Teen Pregnancy Prevention
This component will strengthen resiliency in youth and increase the delay of sexual debut. The Institute works with adolescents to change their perception that most teens are sexually active sexual activity increases respect from others. .
Program Goals
The goal of this educational component is to include abstinence values among teens and decrease the initiation of sexual intercourse.
Program Objectives
- Encourage the delay of initiation of sexual activity (abstinence education)
- Reduce risky behaviors such s substance abuse and delinquency
- Reduce one of more sexual behaviors that lead to unintended pregnancy.
- Increase appropriate condom use if sexually active
- Strengthen parent-child communication and relationships
- Improve adolescent communication, negotiation and refusal skills
- Encourage teens to date partners close to their own ages, rather than older partners.
Participants
- Male & female adolescents
- Youth and young adults, ages 10 – 21
- Elementary, middle & high school students
Program Design
Deliver, and consistently reinforce, a clear message about abstaining from sexual activity and/ or using condoms. Participants will also learn interpersonal and communication skills, as well as explore their own values, goals and options.
